Wow this is so true.
I think I have struggled with all twenty of these issues, some more than others, but I still have encountered all of them. The two errors that stuck out to me the most were wrong words and unecessary commas.
There have been so many times where I have come up with words that I had no idea what it actually meant. This way of writing is really big when I am writing my papers. I consider myself a master in BS’ing papers, and a good BS’d paper requires a lot of flowery words. (I just made up another word….flowery?) People hear words all day everyday, some words they know what they mean, others they have NO idea. In my case, I hear words and the context they are used in and those words pop up into my head when I’m writing……This might not be the exact point of “Misused words” that there trying to get at, but its the problem that I have.
The next issue that I had was unecessary commas. I ALWAYS use too many commas. I think it is because when I write, I write as if I am speaking. With speaking, there are a lot of pauses…and pauses = COMMAS! I don’t mean for it too happen but it does. After writing a paper, I go back and read it and I can honesty say i delete about half of the commas used.
